In partnership with Bharti Airtel, Indian smartphone manufacturer Micromax has launched its Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone in India which is aptly named as Bharat Go. The device will run on a skimmed version of Google’s latest operating system and will allow users to get through the basic functionalities when using a smartphone. Bharat Go is available for an asking price of Rs 4,399 but users will be able to effectively get it reduced down to Rs 2,399, thanks to Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative.
Micromax Bharat Go will be powered by a MediaTek quad-core Chipset with 1GB DDR3 RAM and 8GB of onboard storage, which will be able to provide adequate power and multitasking on a lowly configured smartphone. The device will be the cheapest smartphone to run on the latest Android Oreo (Go Edition) and will thus come preloaded with lighter apps that work seamlessly with lower data.
For a device that costs so little, the Bharat Go still sorts a 5MP primary camera with a 5MP lens on the front for selfies. The device features a minimal 4.5-inch display which will be significantly easier to use in one hand. Supporting the power efficient MediaTek chipset is the 2,000mAh battery, both of them will be able to provide a decent performance at low power.
The distinguishing feature of Bharat Go smartphone is the inbuilt set of apps that include Google’s own light weighted Maps Go, Files Go, YouTube Go, Assistant Go and Gmail Go, all of which will run faster without extensive data usage. The phone will also come with support for OTG connections meaning users can plug in their mouse, keyboard, controllers, and accessories to the device for multitasking.
The VoLTE-enabled Bharat Go smartphone is available for a retail price of Rs 4,399. But with the partnership alongside Airtel, Indian users will be able to get a special cashback of Rs 2,000, effectively bringing down the price of the device to Rs 2,399 through Airtel’s ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ offer.
Speaking about the launch Micromax CMO, Shubhodip Pal said “Android Oreo (Go Edition) is a compelling proposition for the mobile first economy like India. We are proud to announce the launch of Bharat GO, a smartphone powered by the Android Oreo (Go Edition) today. Micromax Started the journey of empowering users a year ago with the launch of Bharat series. And today we are extremely proud to partner with Airtel and Google for the launch of Bharat Go, which will further bridge the need gap of the consumers”.
