Kobian, a leading player in computer peripherals, announced the launch of a dual core Processor based tablet under its Mercury brand, which is named as mTab2. Its earlier version, Mercury mTab was one of the first tablets in the sub-Rs 10,000 category to be launched in India.
The new Mercury mTab2 has a 7 inch (16:9) capacitive multi-touch display and is powered by dual core 1 Ghz processor. It comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system with inbuilt storage of 8 GB which is expandable upto 32 GB via a Micro SD card.
The tablet also comes with a front facing camera. Though this is not a 3G tablet but it supports WiFi (b and g only) and also supports USB-3G dongles.
Mercury mTab2 has a full USB 2.0 port, which allows users to connect any USB device like keyboard; mouse and pen drive to the tablet. And it is claimed to provide a backup up to 8 hours. The tablet also features full HDMI output along Flash 10.2 online video and built-in speaker and mic.
“Our first launch was immensely appreciated and accepted by the masses. It only motivated us to bring in a superior product at an affordable price for our consumers. Features like USB, battery backup and internal storage are vital features for the regular users and mTab2 brings all packed in a lighter version of 365gm this time,” said Sushmita Das, country manager – India, Kobian.

Mercury mTab2 is priced at Rs 11,999 and comes with a warranty period of 1 year. The pricing seems to be good given the specifications but we will have to see how it performs in the real world.
