MediaTek has announced the launch of a new AI platform known as MediaTek i700. The new platform will be globally available starting in 2020.
The new AI platform from MediaTek is meant for Internet of Things (IoT) and it can be used in different scenarios including smart building, smart manufacturing and smart city. The platform is meant to accelerate the development of AI-enabled products in the IoT space. The platform is loaded with new AI engine with MediaTek APU 2.0.
The APU 2.0 features a dual-core AI Processor along with AI Accelerator and AI face detection engine, that the company claims offers 5x better performance as compared to the i500. It is loaded with MediaTek NeuroPilot SDK, which is compatible with Google’s Android Neural Networks API with Android OS.
With the new APU 2.0, the platform is ideal for facial recognition application such as payment authentication, access control for smart building or as a visual-sensor platform for autonomous vehicles in factories and warehouses.
The MediaTek i700 platform features an eight-core architecture with two ARM Cortex-A75 processors clocked up to 2.2 GHz and six Cortex-A55 processors clocked up to 2.0 GHz. It also features MG PowerVR 9XM-HP8 GPU up to 970MHz provides ample 3D graphics performance. In terms of camera, the platform can support a 32-megapixel single sensor with up to 30fps capture or dual-camera setup with a combination of up to 24-megapixel and 16-megapixel.
The platform is loaded with an in-built depth-sensing engine will provide real-time depth calculation data, distance calculation or environment mapping. It is also loaded with triple ISP design can handle 14-bit RAW and 10-bit YUV capture. Connectivity includes support for 2×2 802.11ac Wi-Fi and low-power Bluetooth 5.0 technology, plus 4G LTE up to Cat.12 with 4×4 MIMO and 3 Carrier Aggregation.
