MediaTek based smartphones vulnerable to potential SMS hack

A new SMS vulnerability has been discovered in several MediaTek mobile chipset based smartphones.

vMobile maker MediaTek has given a major contribution in helping handset makers introduce affordable smartphones. Now a website, Neowin, has reported about a new SMS vulnerability that affects several MediaTek mobile chipset based handsets. As per this SMS hack, the MediaTek chipset based phones automatically shut down and reset.

MediaTek mobile chipset based smartphones are vulnerable to a SMS hack which causes random reset of the phone. Really obnoxious loophole that gets triggered when the MediaTek mobile chipset based phone users receives equal symbol repeatedly. Just one symbol makes the phone unusable.

The vulnerability has been confirmed on several models from Wiko, Alcatel, and other phones. The users owning a MediaTek based phone can also have it checked. Unfortunately, no specific version has been revealed.
