In a survey of potential tablet buyers, it was found the Amazon was number one competitor against Apple even though it is yet to come out with its own tablet. When the users were asked a specific question, in the Retrevo survey, about which manufacturer they would really consider buying a tablet from, 55 per cent of them said they were interested in buying from Amazon. Samsung and Dell were joint second spot holder with 38 per cent buyers rooting for them whereas 24 per cent were looking to buy a BlackBerry tablet.
In another insight from the survey, most users were willing to forgo their iPad only if the Android tablet was cheaper. About 48 per cent of users wanted it to be cheaper than $300 (about Rs 13,200).
The survey findings are really music for Amazon, since there is every possibility it will be able to deliver a good tablet at this price. Notably, news reports has been doing the rounds on Internet that Amazon is looking to reduce the cost of its upcoming tablet by adopting a slew of majors.
Despite the runaway success of Apple’s iPad so far, things are not likely to remain the same in future as well. Users are simply looking for a tablet which performs yet costs the minimal, and they are waiting for Amazon to deliver. What’s more, Amazon is not needed to make a big dent in the Apple’s iPad fort, even a small dent would make them appear successful in the short term, and who knows, the picture might change in the next two three years.
