After getting delayed beyond the Q1 2019 release, LG is finally rolling out an Android 9 Pie update to the users of its LG G7 ThinQ. The update was earlier rolled to out to users of the G7 ThinQ in South Korea and it took the company five months to roll out a similar update to users globally.
Several users on Reddit have now started posting that their LG G7 ThinQ is now getting an update to Android 9 Pie. Keeping in mind that these users hail from Czech Republic, Poland, Italy, and the UK, we can expect that this is a mass rollout and will release to LG G7 ThinQ units in India as well, though it might be a while till all units receive the latest firmware update.
The latest update to the G7 ThinQ will bring the same features as it did through the update to South Korean users. Besides features from Android Pie, LG has added a new gesture home button function where users can drag the home button to view recent history or back to the previous screen. The update also brings new volume controls, screenshot previews, battery saver and screen rotation button in the nav bar.
The device will now be gone to a new “Sunset to sunrise” setting in easy-to-view mode, folder access controls and WiFi permission management for a given app. Inside the camera, the G7 ThinQ gets a new Magic Photo function. Additional features include Dual App functionality and home screen lock for keeping apps and widgets in place.
Android 9 Pie update to the LG G7 ThinQ will bring May 1, 2019 batch of Android security updates and will shift the firmware version to V20b through the 1.4GB sized package.
To recall, LG G7 ThinQ comes with a 6.1 inch LCD display that offers 3120 x 1440 pixels resolution, 19.5:9 FullVision screen ratio. The phone offers an 8MP camera up front and two rear cameras of 16MP resolution each. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with 4 GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
