LG smartphones to get Android 4.0 ICS in Q2 2012

Interestingly, LG is still in process of region-wise roll out of Android 2.3 Gingerbread update.

LG has announced its plans to roll out the 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for its Android based smartphones. The official LG Mobile Facebook account posted a note stating that Android 4.0 ICS update will start rolling out in the second quarter (April-June) and the third quarter (July-September) of next year 2012. Interestingly, LG is still in process of region-wise roll out of Android 2.3 Gingerbread update.

Sony Ericsson, Samsung and HTC have already announced their plans to roll out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the respective high-end smartphones in the coming year.

In the second quarter, the number LG mobiles that are expected to get the Android 4.0 ICS update include Optimus LTE, Prada, Optimus 2X, Optimus Sol, myTouch Q and Eclipse.

LG’s Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, Optimus Big, Optimus Q2 and Optimus EX are expected to get the Android 4.0 update in the third quarter of next year.

Quite obviously, the most recent devices get the first preference in terms of the update while the already released ones get secondary priority. Also the dates and period of roll out will vary from country to country based on several technical as well as legal limitations.

While the LG’s Android based smartphone owners in India still await the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update, it would not be pleasant to hear about the late update roll out of the Android 4.0 ICS.
