LG has commenced the roll out of first of its kind remote maintenance services for its Optimus smartphones worldwide. That means LG Optimus 2X LG P990, Optimus Black LG P970 and Optimus 3D LG P920 users won’t have to visit LG service center in case of any software issues.
Besides that, LG will also release future firmware updates for its Optimus family smartphones over-the-air through the FOTA (Firmware Over-The-Air) system. Of course, registration is required through the remote call application for users to get any-time customer care support without visiting LG customer information center physically.
LG had rolled out the Remote Call and the FOTA system in Korea earlier this May. After receiving good feedback, LG has commenced the roll out of its remote maintenance services worldwide. Currently the remote maintenance service will be available only for premium LG Optimus series smartphones — 2X, 3D and Black through an application called Remote Call.
With the Remote Call application, LG’s technical support will be able to diagnose the software issues with Optimus smartphone’s remotely. However, the Optimus smartphone owners must register through the Remote Call application for receiving the technical support from the LG Customer Information Center Agents.
LG’s Remote Call application makes use of the phone’s 3G network or Wi-Fi connectivity to fix the issue remotely. That means the smartphone must stay connected to 3G or Wi-Fi. The LG CIC Agents would not get any access to user’s emails, messages, pictures, or other data unless the user allows it.
With the LG FOTA System and pre-loaded FOTA app, users will be able to keep their devices up to date with latest software updates.
LG Optimus 2X and Optimus Black users in India as well as rest of the world eagerly await the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for the devices. Probably LG has been testing the Gingebread update with Remote Call and LG FOTA system on it. The company has already started rolling out Gingerbread update to its Optimus variants in the US. In coming few weeks, Optimus smartphone owners can expect the update to be pushed to their devices.
