LG will roll out the latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich update for its high end Optimus smartphones, the handset manufacturer has confirmed.
“The Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS will be initially available for the following high-end LG smartphones which were introduced this year: the Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE,” the company announced on its Facebook page.
“We are also continuing to evaluate the ICS OS to determine whether it is compatible with the functionality, features and performance of other LG smartphones to make the ICS OS available on as many LG smartphones as possible,” LG added.
However, the company has yet not divulged the dates but since the post has appeared this month, it is expected that the information on the update rollout timeline will only be revealed towards the third or the fourth week of December.
LG had earlier this month promised the ICS update for its smartphones but had not revealed the names. This latest announcement will come as a great relief for the users of LG Optimus smartphones.
Many LG smartphone users around the globe are yet to get the Android Gingerbread upgrade which puts a big question mark on the availability of the ICS update.
Also, it is not clear now whether the users will first be getting the Android Gingerbread upgrade or LG will be leapfrogging to the ICS upgrade for such users. More clarity on the updates will only be obtained as and when the rollout plans and the upgrade list of the Android line up is officiated.
