Lenovo today announced the Vibe S1 for the Indian market at Rs 15,999 at which OnePlus X too is being sold in the country. Here we have thus pitted the two phones to see which one of them is the better value for money device.
Design
Both the phones have similar design elements. They both come with glass finished back panel and metal rim and unibody structure. In the Vibe S1, the rim is a bit curved and has smooth finishing while the OnePlus X has thicker and flat RIM.
Also though both these devices come with 5 inch touchscreen, their overall dimension differs. The Vibe S1 is taller, wider and thicker than the OnePlus X. To be specific, the Vibe S1 measures 143.3 x 70.8 x 7.8 mm while the OnePlus X measures 140 x 69 x 6.9 mm. Strangely despite having a smaller profile, the OnePlus X is heavier than the Vibe S1. That shows the higher level of craftsmanship OnePlus has used to manufacture the OnePlus X.
Like the Vibe S1, the OnePlus X has got the normal volume and power button and on top of that it has got an extra Alert Slider switch between silent, all notifications and priority notifications modes without even having to turn your screen on.
In both the phones, in the bottom panel lies the Micro USB port and two speaker grills while the top panel lies the 3.5 jack along with a mic. The back panel of both the phones have cleaner looks. In the Vibe S1, the camera is in the top-middle of the back panel while the OnePlus X’s rear camera is towards the left-top corner of the back panel.
Display
Both the phones offer 5 inch touchscreen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and full high definition resolution. Both of them also offer the same full high definition display Resolution (1920×1080 pixels). However, when compared the two phones side by side, I found the OnePlus X’s display to be a bit brighter.
Touch response of the both the displays is quite good.
Camera
This is the biggest differentiator between the two. The Lenovo Vibe S1 has a 13 Megapixel rear camera and two front cameras – 8 megapixel and 2 megapixel. The secondary 2 megapixel camera allows the Vibe S1 to offer additional camera editing features like blurring and a feature called ‘Cut Out’ that allows one to cut the subject of the picture and apply on to a different back ground. So for example, if you take a selfie in your bathroom but cannot share it given the surroundings, then just cut your image out of that picture and apply it on to something else, say your garden.
The OnePlus X has got a 13 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front camera. Both of its cameras are quite good too but as compared to the Lenovo Vibe S1, it has fewer camera features. Ofcourse it does not have a second front camera. So it seems less fun with the OnePlus X when it comes to camera. Also, the OnePlus X tends to create a slight yellowish tinge.
Other features
Both the phones come with Android Lollipop operating system. The OnePlus X has the Oxygen OS UI which is more or less resembles the default Android OS while the Vibe UI of the Lenovo smartphone is a bit different.
The Vibe S1 has the 64 bit octa core Mediatek MT6752 Processor while the OnePlus X comes with the Snapdragon 801 processor. Both also offer 3 GB RAM. Also they have 128 GB micro SD card slot but the Vibe S1 has 32 GB Internal Memory while the OnePlus X has 16 GB of internal memory.
They have similar sized battery as well – the Vibe S1 has a 2500 Li-Po battery compared to 2525 mAh Li-Po battery of OnePlus X.
Both are dual SIM phones and they offer 4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, micro USB port and GPS.
Conclusion
On the basis of features and design, it is definitely quite a close contest. Both are quite good handsets but with dual front camera the Lenovo Vibe S1 seems to have a slight EDGE over the OnePlus X.
We are currently reviewing both the phones and we will be able to throw more light on their performance in coming times.
