Lenovo today announced the launch of Vibe K5 Plus in India. It is priced at just Rs 8,499 seems quite irresistible. But so is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
So let’s check out how the new Vibe K5 Plus fares against Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.
Design and Display
Both K5 Plus and Note 3 are armed with premium metal unibody. The Lenovo handset has flat side panels while the Redmi Note 3 has curved side panels and thus comparatively is much easier to grip. However, the Redmi phone is bigger as it has a 5.5 inch display while the Lenovo smartphone has a smaller 5 screen. So the Lenovo phone is compact.
To be specific, the 164 grams heavy Redmi Note 3 measures 150 x 76 x 8.65 mm while the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus measures 142x71x8.2mm and weighs 142 grams.
The Redmi Note 3’s 5.5 inch display has full HD display as the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus’ display. However, Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has a smaller display which means its display has higher Pixel density and hence should offer crisper output.
Memory
The Redmi Note 3, which costs Rs 9,999, has 2 GB RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and a micro SD card slot (the SIM2 slot) that can hold a micro SD card of up to 128 GB.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus too has 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of internal storage but its expandable storage slot has 32 GB capacity.
Chipset
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is armed with the 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 650 hexacore Processor (64 bit), Adreno 510 GPU and 2 GB RAM.
On the other hand, the K5 Plus has octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor, which is paired with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 405 GPU.
Clearly, the Redmi Note 3 seems to have an EDGE over the K5 Plus in processing power.
Camera
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has a 16-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The rear camera is equipped with 5 element lens, f/2.0 aperture, 78-degree wide angle lens, two-tone flashlight, panorama, HDR, and manual mode features. The front camera also has a f/2.0 Aperture and it supports face recognition and has Beautify mode.
The Vibe K5 Plus sports a 13-megapixel rear-camera with an LED flash, a 5-megapixel front-facing sensor.
At this point of time it is not possible to say which one of them is a better camera phone but on paper the Xiaomi smartphone definitely looks much better with its higher Resolution rear camera.
Other features
Both the phones come with Android Lollipop operating system. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 dual SIM with 4G connectivity, Bluetooth 4.1, dual Band WiFi, WiFi Direct, and GPS with AGPS, GLONASS and Beidou. The Note 3 has IR blaster which will allow it to be used as a remote controller. Besides it has an electronic compass, gyroscope, gravity sensor, proximity, hall, and light sensors.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus also has Dual-SIM, 4G LTE, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and a Micro USB port.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has a 2750 mAh battery while the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has a much bigger 4000 mAh battery.
Both the phones come with fingerprint sensor.
Wrapping up
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 looks lot better in terms of processing power, storage, camera and connectivity features. However do keep it in mind that it is Rs 1,500 costlier than the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus. So if you can spend Rs 9,999, go for the Redmi Note 3, else the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus seems a much better value for money device at Rs 8,499. Note that Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus will be available from March 23, 12 noon, from Flipkart and that through open sales.
