With influx of social networking sites and the need to stay connected data service consumers always feel a need to be connected.
To tap this segment of users and offer them a simple way to have WiFi networks always and everywhere at the touch of a button, Indian handset player Lava has few days back launched a pocket wireless router, W150, which can create a WiFi network using RJ45 port or USB datacard, both in EVDO and 3G networks.
Lava’s spokesperson said to ‘The Mobile Indian’, “The WiFi router is now available at all the leading retail stores and is priced at Rs 2,900. At full charge, it can be continuously used for 4 hours.”
Lava W150 converts the data signal connection to WiFi, thus creating a Wifi hotspot which can be used by 32 users simultaneously for connecting WiFi enabled devices including phones, laptops and personal computers. It provides a signal with a downloading speed up to 150 Mbps within a radius 50 metres.
Some time back, even Micromax had launched WiFi router – MMX 400R – for Rs 4,999 which can be connected to the internet via a SIM card activated with data services with downloading speed up to 7.2 Mbps within a radius of 5-10 metres and it connect to a maximum of five WiFi enabled devices.
Among service providers, Vodafone has a similar device that acts as a WiFi hotspot and lets up to five people connect to it for accessing the internet. The device was priced at Rs 5,500 but was bundled with a Vodafone connection. On 2G, through an EDGE network, it provides a downloading speed of up to 256 Kbps.
Tata Photon too has a similar device which offers 3.1 Mbps and is priced at Rs 6,500.
