Lava has informed The Mobile Indian that from now on all the new Lava Iris 501 devices sold will come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
The company has also said that existing users of this 5 inch tablet can update the phone with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. How the update Processor will work is something that we did not know at the time of filing the story and we will have this information soon.
We suspect users will have to visit a Lava service centre to get the update, something Micromax and Salora did earlier with their Canvas II and Powermaxx Z1.
The Lava Iris 501 comes with a 5 inch WVGA (800 x 480 pixel) screen, 1 GHz dual core processor, 5 Megapixel rear camera and a VGA camera in the front. A 2300 mAh battery powers the phone. We reviewed the phone earlier.
It is indeed impressive and performs better than the specifications suggest, and given that it is priced at Rs 7,999 only, it is one of the better products in the 5 inch category and with this upgrade it is expected to become even better, given Jelly Bean OS is better optimised for performance.
