Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd. (SPPL), a Kodak brand licensee which made its debut in 2016 in India, has been actively launching a new range of Smart TVs in the Indian market. With the competition getting intense in this segment as a result of Xiaomi’s entry, Kodak has been launching high-end specifications at an affordable price point. Currently, the brand has a variety of products over a range of 32, 40, 50 and 55 inches with models ranging from HD to 4K-ready TVs.
We meet Avneet Singh Marwah, Director and CEO of Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd, a brand licensee for Kodak TV to discuss the company’s future plans, after-sales support and type of competition it will face with Xiaomi’s first Mi LED TV among others.
Q1: You started selling Kodak TVs in India since August 2016. Till now what changes have you witnessed in the Indian television industry?
The most memorable moment I can recall with Kodak in India is the acceptance in the Indian market for Kodak as a brand. Since we launched, consumers have begun accepting the Smart TV in the country and users are now converting from vanilla TVs to Smart TVs.

Q2: Xiaomi recently launched its slimmest TV in India known as Mi LED TV4. Are you feelingjittery?
No, I don’t think there is any tremor in the market because of the latest Mi LED TV. It is just another brand that has ventured into this segment. They will do their best and we will do our best and I always wish them luck.
Q3: They have come up with slim TV…
First thing is that everyone is talking about slimness and nobody is talking about brightness. Our TVs have better brightness as compared to Xiaomi’s TVs. When you compare both the TVs, our backlight technology is stronger than the one present in Xiaomi.
I don’t think that slim TVs has a very good advantage as LED itself is a very slim TV. One can related to slimness if there is a conversion from CRT televisions to LED TVs. But a super-slim TV doesn’t really have any as such advantage. Other things like specs and more matters as well. We use a better display panel in our TVs. In terms of content, we brought the first TV in India that supports both Android apps and the Aptoide store as well. So, we have more content than them (Xiaomi) as one can download almost all the apps and run them on their Smart TVs. We also have some of the best technology in our Smart TV range.
Note: For users who may not be aware, Aptoideis an alternative marketplace for android based mobile applications At the Aptoide store, a user can manage their own store.
