Digital and online entertainment provider, Hotstar has said that video consumption in India has jumped five times in last one year.
In its first “India Watch Report 2018”, the company said that in the last 12 months data and consumption of videos has gone deeper into the country.
“A new generation of users are emerging in India who take for granted round the clock access to the best stories, who know that they can watch the best shows from around the world at the same time as the world,” Ajit Mohan, CEO, Hotstar, said in a statement.
As per the study, the gender gap in access to data persists but affordability is opening up new opportunities as women from smaller cities are coming online faster than in the metros.
Needless to say, Reliance Jio’s entry into the telecom space and the subsequent pricing war has made data services really cheap. Data prices have fallen drastically since Jio’s entry into commercial services in 2016.
Now almost all the telecos are offering as much as 2 GB data for about Rs 100 and have 1 GB per day data plan for about Rs 400.
