Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched the mobile version of its website. Currently in the beta phase (testing phase), the site will allow users of internet enabled mobile phones to book and cancel railway tickets through their mobile phones.
The site can be accessed through any Browser enabled mobile having basic GPRS activated on phone.
People can book tickets by providing source and destination, check booking history and cancel tickets. Payment can be made using credit or debit card. Users can use their existing IRCTC user ID and Password to login to the website.
IRCTC is also planning to bring the application version of the site, which will enable many more features similar to what is available on the full web version of the IRCTC.
There are already three apps – PAYMATE, ngpay and ATOM, which allow users to buy rail tickets using their mobile phones. These three services are also available through mobile applications for smartphones and higher end feature phones.
Recently Indian Railways also allowed travelers the option to carry their tickets in the phone itself instead of printing an e-ticket. Users will however still need to carry a valid identity proof.
