Believe it or not, the Apple iPhone 5, which sells for Rs 45,500 and above in India, is actually worth Rs 11,818.
This has been revealed by Barclays in one of its research report. The report estimated that the total material cost for a typical iPhone 5, which excludes the value of warranty, manufacturing costs, significant logistics expenses and other cost components, is $215 or Rs 11,818 approximately.
“We estimate that NAND Flash accounts for about 10% of the total iPhone cost, wireless components account about 16% and the display about 20% of the total.” estimated Barclays.
The research and financial firm further added that the material cost for iPhone 5 “might have declined slightly in the month of December, last year”. How true this estimation is hard to tell. And if it is true, wonder what is the cost of the smartphones that our desi handset manufacturers launch in India?
