According to a Cnet story, iPad 2 is likely to sport a dual core chip, a first for handheld products from Apple. Technology news site Cnet has quoted Ashok Kumar, an analyst from Rodman & Renshaw saying this will be because competitors including Motorola and RIM PlayBook are selling devices that have dual core processors.
Kumar further says that Apple plans to launch a new iPad by March 2011 while the iPhone will be updated by late summer. A dual core Processor is likely to allow Apple devices to multitask like personal computers do, provided the OS supports it.
Although iPads are designed to work like computers for people who don’t like to work with computers, so far low processor speed has to a large extent deterred multiple operations and applications in these devices.
