Apple revealed its new software, iOS 15 for iPhones and iPadOS 15 for iPads at WWDC 2021. The software has been under testing since then with the developers. But now, the company had released the public beta for anyone to access Apple’s latest software before the stable release.
How to get iOS 15, iPadOS 15 public beta?
To install the public beta versions, the user will have to first enrol themself in the Beta Software Program by Apple. To enroll, the user will need to have a valid Apple ID and will have to accept the Program Agreement during the sign-up process.
Once enrolled, you can head over to settings, general and then software update to download the build.
As it is beta software, one can expect fair share of bugs and issues with the software. So you might not want to install this on your phone which you use daily. Secondly, you must backup your data before installing the beta build as there’s always a risk of data loss.
iOS 15, iPadOS 15 Compatibility
The iOS 15 public beta is compatible with iPhone 6S and later models. The latest iPadOS is compatible with 1st to 5th generations of iPad Pro 12.9-inch and 1st to 3rd generations of iPad Pro 11.0-inch. Only 5th to 8th generations are supported for iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Pro 10.5-inch. For iPad Air, it will be 2nd to 4th Generations and for iPad Mini it will be 4th and 5th Generations.
iPadOS 15 Features
iPadOS 15 introduces a multitasking experience that is even more intuitive, making features like Split View and Slide Over easier to discover, easier to use, and more powerful. Notes goes systemwide with Quick Note, and offers new ways to collaborate and organize whether typing or writing with Apple Pencil.
New widget layouts for the Home Screen and App Library offer simple ways to personalize the iPad experience and organize apps. Translate delivers new features for translating text and conversations. Users can now build apps for iPhone and iPad, on iPad, with Swift Playgrounds. The new iPadOS update also includes new privacy controls in Siri, Mail, and more places across the system to further protect user information.
Users can now share experiences with SharePlay while connecting with friends on FaceTime, including listening to songs together with Apple Music, watching a TV show or movie in sync, or sharing their screen to view apps together.
iOS 15 Features
New iOS 15 comes with spatial audio for FaceTime calls. Voices in a FaceTime call nos sound like they are coming from where the person is positioned on the screen. The microphone modes separate the user’s voice from background noise.
Notifications have been redesigned, adding contact photos for people and larger icons for apps that make them even easier to identify. To help reduce distraction, a new notification summary collects non-time-critical notifications for delivery at a more opportune time, such as in the morning and evening.
Live Text uses on-device intelligence to recognise text in a photo and allow users to take action. With the help of the Apple Neural Engine, the Camera app can also quickly recognise and copy the text in the moment, such as the Wi-Fi Password displayed at a local coffee shop.
Safari gets a new design that makes controls easier to reach with one hand and puts content front and center. For Apple maps, users will experience significantly enhanced details in cities for neighbourhoods, commercial districts, elevation, buildings, new road colours and labels, custom-designed landmarks, and a new night-time mode with a moonlit glow.
