The hardware design work of student tablet start up, Kno Inc, has been taken up by Intel.
For investment too, the Intel Capital and Advance Publications are likely to be the lead investors in the company. The company itself plans to concentrate on the software part of the business aimed at the student market.
The tablets, however, would not be manufactured by Intel, as it would just share the hardware designs with other manufacturers who would do the rest. In simple terms, it just means Kno would not be there in the hardware business anymore.
The Kno executives believe that since market is already offering so many new tablets in the market, seamless offering of the device was not doubtful anymore.
Market experts, however, suggests that Kno should rather concentrate on providing its software and other services through both Apple iPad and Android operating system based tablets. The company is well suited to do it as it has partnerships with well known universities and colleges in place.
Kno had not shipped significant number of tablets in the market, which could have played a part in the decision. The company is working on two tablet versions, one was a single screen device whereas the other one was two screens which would have been more expensive.
The market has already become too competitive with big companies in the fray which include Google, Apple, Amazon, Dell, Hewlett-Packard and, of course, Microsoft.
