The Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin (IFA), Europe’s biggest technology show, is about to kick-start from September 1. The event will be held in Berlin, Germany and like every year, manufacturers from around the globe will showcase their latest and greatest technology.
During the show, companies like Samsung, LG, Sony and more will showcase their latest flagships in different categories, with smartphones being the main attraction. The show will be running from September 1 to September 6. So, in order to give a better perspective, here is what to expect from this year’s IFA event.
Samsung
Though Samsung has already unveiled its latest flagship, the Galaxy Note 8, the company is expected to make a slew of announcements during the event. The company is reported to introduce a new smart speaker which will compete with the likes of Amazon Echo, Google Home and Apple HomePod. DJ Koh, President, Samsung Mobile Division, has already confirmed that the company will soon launch a smart speaker. Multiple reports suggest that it might come with company’s in-house Bixby voice assistant.
Samsung is also expected to take the wrap off from its latest Gear S4 smartwatch. The brand is also reported to announce Gear Fit2 Pro, which will be an upgraded version of the popular Gear Fit 2 fitness tracker. The Band will sport curved AMOLE display and will come loaded with a host of interesting features like GPS tracking, swim tracking, run tracking, heart rate monitor, step counts, calories burnt and more. The device is reported to come with a price tag of Rs $199.
LG
LG has already confirmed that it will be launching the latest V30 smartphone at IFA 2017 on August 31. The latest smartphone has been subjected to various leaks and the brand has also revealed some key features of the upcoming device. To start with, LG has confirmed that LG V30 will come with 6-inch QHD+ P-OLED FullVision display and it will be company’s first phone to feature an OLED panel. The phone is also reported to be world’s first smartphone to feature a large f/1.6 aperture and it is reported to come loaded with a dual-camera setup.
Moving on, the company has decided to ditch the Second Screen for the V30, which was the main highlight of the V series, and instead will utilise a floating bar that allows quick access to frequently used functions and it can be dragged completely off the display. For the security, LG has added face recognition technology on the V30 and one can unlock the device instantaneously using the front facing camera even when the display is off.
As for the specs are concerned, the device is reported to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset. The device will be backed by a 4GB of RAM and it is reported that it will come with a 64GB of internal storage.
Sony
Sony is expected to launch the latest iteration of its Xperia XZ series. The company is reported to unveil Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact and Xperia X1 during the trade show. The Sony Xperia XZ1 is reported to be priced at 599 GBP which is approximately Rs 49,265 while Xperiz XZ1 Compact will cost you 499 GBP which is approximately Rs 41,041.
According to multiple reports, the Xperia XZ1 will boast a 5.2-inch Full HD display with a screen Resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The phone will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor along with 4GB of RAM and it will be juiced up by a 3000mAh battery.
The Xperia XZ1 Compact will be a smaller edition of the above-mentioned flagship device and will come loaded with the same processor and RAM. However, it will feature a 4.6-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and will be backed up by a smaller 2,800mAh battery.
Lastly, the Xperia X1 will be a mid-range device and will sport a 5-inch HD display, will be powered by Snapdragon 660 Chipset and will feature a 2,800mAh battery. Interestingly, the translated text from the source reveals that all three smartphones will offer “full Pixel continuous and shoot”. This could also mean that all the devices might come loaded with the 19-megapixel rear camera, which is found in Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs.
HTC
HTC will also hold an event during the upcoming trade show and it expected to launch HTC U11 Life smartphone, which will be a mid-range offering. The smartphone will come loaded with company’s Edge Sense feature and it is reported to feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display and it will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 mobile platform. On the camera front, the device will sport a 16-megapixel Panorama selfie camera and a 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detection auto focus (PDAF).
However, there is no information about the RAM, but it will be backed by a 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 2TB via micro SD card slot. Other than this, the HTC U11 Life will feature IP67 certification and it will come bundled with HTC USonic earbuds, which would also mean that it will ditch a traditional Headphone jack.
Motorola
Motorola is expected to launch Moto X4 handset at this year’s IFA. We already know key features and specifications of the upcoming device, all thanks to the recent leaks and renders. The smartphone will take the leverage of a dual-camera setup and it might come with a glass panel, which could reflect light. On the specification front, the Moto X4 is reported to feature a 5.2-inch Full HD AMOLED display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor,4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.
The device is IP68 certified, meaning that it will be water and dust resistant. On the camera front, the smartphone will come equipped with a dual-camera setup. Both the Sensors will sport 12-megapixel sensors, with one being used for capturing monochrome, while the other will be used to capture RGB colours. The camera will come with different modes including HDR, Panorama, Geo-tagging, face-detection, macro-mode, burst mode and slow-motion mode. For the front, the device will be equipped with a 16-megapixel shooter with a Wide-Angle lens.
The Moto X4 will be juiced up by a 3000mAh battery with 25W turbo charging and it will run on Android Nougat. On the connectivity front, the device support 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.1, WiFi, GPS, GLONASS and Micro USB port.
Everything else
Other than this, one can expect a new smartphone launch from Alcatel. Asus might unveil its next generation smartwatch along with a range of gaming laptops under its Republic of Gamers banner. We might also hear some interesting announcements from Dell, HP, Lenovo and more.
