Idea Cellular has now extended its 3G services to Uttar Pradesh (East) circle, the most populous state of the country.
In the first phase, Idea’s 3G services will be available in six towns of Uttar Pradesh, that  are Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Jhansi, Sitapur and Azamgarh.
UP (East) is one of the largest telecom circles in India with roughly 60 million subscribers. Idea had already launched 3G in UP (West).
Idea’s 3G services will enable users to avail Video Conferencing, IdeaMall Application Store, Mobile TV, Video on Demand, and high-speed Internet Browsing.
With 3G, Idea users can do a range of things with ease such as downloading songs, watching videos on YouTube, audio, photo updates on Facebook, mail and other online media, movie downloads, watching mobile TV, e-mailing with attachments, blog postings, viewing photos, and Flash and HD Gaming.
Idea 3G, the teleco claims, will provide speed upto 21 Mbps on 3G handsets, and higher speed on other devices depending on the device capability.
Apart from Idea, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Aircel and Vodafone have launched 3G services in the circle.
Idea has already launched 3G services in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
“By March 2012, a total of 87 towns in UP (East) would be covered under 3G network,” Idea chief operating officer Lakshminarayana was quoted as saying by a website.
Idea won 2.1 GHz (3G Spectrum) in 11 circles — MP & Chattisgarh, HP, Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Haryana, UP East, UP West, AP, J&K and Punjab
Currently, 10 per cent of Idea’s over 86 million subscribers are said to be using 3G enabled handsets. It is expected that these users will be the early adopters of 3G services.
