Hungama to launch music, Bollywood apps

The apps will be ad supported and free for consumers; while some part will be subscription based.

This is exciting news for Bollywood and music lovers. Hungama, which has digital distribution rights for more than 70 per cent of Indian film music, is going to officially launch two apps offering the latest music and Bollywood content.

The first app, called MyPlay, offers Bollywood songs, international hits, devotional songs, ghazals and Indian regional music. The collection of more than 4,50,000 songs, videos, ring tones and wallpapers will be available through this for you to download on your mobile.

The application comes with an integrated player which can be used to play both audio and video files on your phone. You can manage songs by creating music playlists. The app is currently available at market, Ovi Store, BlackBerry App World, and iTunes.

Currently, the app is in the beta (testing) phase, but a full fledged version is expected in the next two weeks and it will be free. Some people have faced issues with the current app, but the glitches will likely be sorted before final release.

The other app is called ‘Bollywood Hungama’, which will offer the latest news, gossip, celebrity wallpapers and movie reviews etc. from Bollywood. Taran Adarsh, the well-known movie critic, will review movies for this app. Hungama is also using its existing tie-ups with Bollywood producers to get access to exclusive first looks of photo shoots and other news for this app.

This app too is available free on major platforms. However, for some content, users might have to spend some money. This app is in the beta stage and will be officially launched soon.

Noaman Kazi, head, app business at Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, said to ‘The Mobile Indian’, “We have big plans for the app industry. We will launch several new apps in the coming month, starting with MyPlay and Bollywood Hungama. We have a huge database of Indian entertainment content and we will use that to bring apps which add value to the consumers’ life”.

He added, “Most of our apps will be ad supported and free for consumers, while some part will be subscription based”.

Hungama is also looking at celebrity tie-ups to develop apps based on what expertise they offer to users. For instance, health, dance, cooking and yoga related apps will have celebrities giving expert advice on these topics.

Noaman confirmed that Hungama will also launch a lot of gaming apps in times to come.
