Huawei to launch MiFi device for India

The MiFi devices are similar to USB dongles but it gets additional WiFi hotspot capability. This is going to be first open market dongle, allowing people to use any SIM.

Huawei will launch a MiFi device in India, a company official told while exclusively speaking to The Mobile Indian. The device will be priced at Rs 4500.

MiFi stands for ‘My WiFi’. It is basically a wireless routers that act as mobile WiFi hotspots. The MiFi can be connected to a mobile phone carrier and provide internet access for up to five devices. The MiFi works at a distance up to 10 m and will provide internet or network access to any WiFi enabled peripheral device.

Currently many telecom operators offer such products in India. Vodafone’s MiFi dongle was launched some time back for Rs 5500. Tata Photon has also provides a similar dongle.Tata Photon WiFi comes at Rs 6000 and you can enjoy a maximum of 15 of free usage for a monthly rental of Rs 1,500. Beetel too offers such a MiFi device for Rs 5500.

The biggest advantage of the Huawei MiFi device will be the fact that it will allow change of SIM card, and users can choose any operator SIM.

There are certain phones which come with MiFi capability, including Huawei Ideos, Motorola Milestone, and Apple iPhone.
