Huawei P9, P9 Plus smartphones announced with revolutionary camera tech

The USP of the phones is their dual 12-megapixel rear cameras that come with camera sensors made by Leica - a famous German camera maker.

Huawei has announced its latest flagship smartphones, the Huawei P9 and P9 Plus, in an event held in London yesterday.

The Huawei P9 comes in two variants – one with 3GB and 32 GB internal storage while the other has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. Both the versions come with expandable memory slot of 128 GB capacity. The Huawei P9 3GB is to cost €599 (approximately Rs 45,518) while 4 GB variant has a price tag of €649 (approximately Rs 49,326). On the other hand, the Huawei P9 Plus costs €749 (approximately Rs 56,857). The Huawei P9 comes in Titanium Grey, Mystic Silver, Prestige Gold, Haze Gold, Rose Gold and Ceramic White colour variants, while the Huawei P9 Plus is to be made available in Ceramic White, Rose Gold, Haze Gold and Quartz Grey colour variants.

The USP of the phones is their dual 12-megapixel rear cameras that come with camera made by Leica – a famous German camera maker. The phone actually combines the data received from the rear cameras to create one 12 megapixel picture. While one of the sensors capture red, green and blue (RGB) information, the other collects image data. As per Huawei, due to use of such dual sensors, the phone delivers better contrast and offers superior performance in low light.

The Huawei P9 features a 5.2-inch full (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by 2.5GHz Octa-Core Kirin 955 processor. The smartphone runs on 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with Huawei Emotion UI and is packed with a 3000 mAh battery. It has a fingerprint sensor at the back.

Huawei P9 flaunts a 12-megapixel dual rear camera with Leica SUMMARIT lenses, dual-tone LED flash, Laser and f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, the device has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. On the connectivity front, the smartphone offers 4G/LTE, WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), 4.1, GPS/A-GPS, and type C. The P9 measures 145 x 70.9 x 6.95mm and weighs 144 grams

On the other hand, Huawei P9 Plus features a 5.5-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED Press Touch 2.5D curved glass display and is powered by 2.5GHz Octa-Core Kirin 955 processor coupled with 4GB RAM. The P9 Plus runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with Huawei Emotion UI. It is packed with a 3400 mAh battery that supports technology. It has a fingerprint scanner as well.

Huawei P9 Plus comes with 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expandable up-to 128 GB via a micro SD card. The smartphone boasts dual 12-megapixel rear cameras with Leica SUMMARIT lenses, dual-tone LED flash, Laser autofocus and f/2.2 and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. On the connectivity front, the smartphone offers 4G/LTE, WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac), Bluetooth 4.1, and GPS/A-GPS, NFC and USB Type C. The phone dimensions are 152.2 × 75.31 × 6.98mm and weighs 162 grams.
