Huawei has launched Ideos, a smartphone powered by Android 2.2 operating system, in India, at Rs 8499. In the name Ideos, “Id” stands for ‘inspiring industrial design’, the “os” for ‘operating system’ and the “e” symbolizes the ‘evolution’ to mobile internet.
The phone was developed in partnership with Google, therefore upgrading the OS is expected to be smooth.
Ideos features a mobile Wifi router that allows users to share internet anywhere with up to eight devices, along with Wifi 802.11 n (the fastest version of Wifi) and 3G HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps.
Ideos comes loaded with a range of social networking, email and Google services such as Google Talk, Google Maps, YouTube and GMail.
“Innovation and premium experiences shouldn’t be restricted to high-priced devices. In our research, we found that Indian youth and young executives are looking for smartphones having novelty, style, networking and performance features, at affordable prices. We believe that Ideos will redefine the internet experience for Indian youth,” said Anand Narang, marketing director of Huawei Devices.
“Huawei has sold over one million Ideos phones globally within two months, ever since it started selling late last year in multiple countries. Driven by the global success and the Indian market’s potential for smart devices, we are planning to launch our other globally smart devices in the market very soon,” said P Sanjeev, director of sales for Huawei Devices.
