With the Google I/O barely a month away, new updates about the upcoming Nexus family products continue to surface online. Myce has spotted references to the purported Google Nexus 8 tablet, codenamed as Volantis/Flounder. These names were spotted in the Android Open Source Project code vaguely referring the tablet in question. This information corroborates with previously sighted information in Google AOSP code citing HTC Flounder and Tegra.
Google is actively trying to keep the codename and the Google Nexus 8 as secretive as possible. However, the queries post at the Android Open Source Project do tend to slip out the references to upcoming hardware products and software updates from Google. Earlier this month, Google had published the Android 4.4 KitKat MR2 (Milestone Release) changes document that mentioned HTC, Flounder and Tegra in the text file.
Google Nexus 8 tablet was rumored to be bit premium than the Nexus 7. Undoubtedly Google has teamed up with HTC to provide the tablet with more premium look. For hardware, Google seems to have tapped NVIDIA Tegra K1 System-on-Chip with 64-bit processing support.
Google has also been reported of working on Android Silver that is set to replace the Nexus line of devices early next year. Till then, Google might release the last generation of devices pegging them as Nexus devices – Tablet and a Smartphone.
