HTC Desire 10 Pro vs OnePlus 3: New vs tested?

HTC only revealed the 64GB variant for the Desire 10 Pro in India at Rs 26,490.

Yesterday, HTC India unveiled two new smartphones – HTC Desire 10 Pro and HTC 10 Evo (HTC Bolt). While HTC Desire 10 Pro will be available starting December 15 at Rs 26,490, HTC didn’t reveal the launch date and price for the 10 Evo. With that price point, HTC Desire 10 Pro faces tough competition from OnePlus 3 which was launched in June this year.

Here we present to you a comparison between OnePlus 3 and HTC Desire 10 pro.

Design and Display

In terms of design, HTC Desire 10 Pro resembles a lot to the Desire 10 Lifestyle with high-contrast gold colour outlining the beautiful matte finished back. The fingerprint sensor sits on the back of the device with 3.5 mm jack at the top and power and volume buttons on the right side. The phone is pretty thin which calls for a camera hump at the back.

There are three capacitive touch buttons below the screen for navigation. At the front, the new HTC Desire 10 Pro comes with a 5.5 inch Full display. The smartphone measures at 156.5 x 76 x 7.86 mm and weighs at 165 grams.

OnePlus 3, on the other hand, come with a metallic unibody design and curved edges at the back making the device feel extremely premium in hands. The fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 3 is embedded into the Home Button located the front along with two customizable touch capacitive buttons. The Power button is on the right side while the volume rockers sit on the left along with the unique ‘Alert Slider’ to quickly change the sound profile of the device. Up front, there is a 5.5 inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) Optic-AMOLED display which is extremely vibrant and pleasing to the eyes. OnePlus 3 measures at 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.4 mm and weighs at 158 grams.

Optic-AMOLED display of OnePlus 3 looks more pleasing to the eye whereas LCD display of HTC Desire Pro tends to naturalise the colours so frankly it boils down to personal preference in this segment. In terms of the design, OnePlus 3 with its aluminium shell definitely looks better.

Performance and Memory

Digging inside reveals the real differences between these two smartphones. HTC Desire 10 Pro is powered by a 64-bit Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P10 coupled with 4GB RAM and 64 internal storage which is expandable up to 2 TB via microSD. Though there is a 32GB + 3GB RAM variant as well, but HTC only launched the 4GB RAM variant in India.

On the other hand, OnePlus 3 features a 2.15 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 820 coupled with Adreno 530 and 6GB RAM. The device comes with a non-expandable 64GB internal storage.

Both the devices run on 6.0.1 Marshmallow out-of-the-box with HTC Sense UI on the Desire 10 Pro and Oxygen OS one the OnePlus 3. HTC’s Sense UI is one of the best Android skins you can get, whereas Oxygen OS is a lot similar to a experience. Summing up, OnePlus 3 is a clear winner in terms of performance with a beast of a processor and a whopping 6GB of RAM.

Camera

We are yet to test HTC Desire 10 Pro’s camera so comparing the two at this stage will be unfair. Listing out the specs, the Desire 10 Pro features a 20-megapixel primary camera coming in with f/2.2, laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash and a 13-megapixel front facing shooter with f/2.2 and Auto-HDR.

On the other hand, OnePlus 3 boasts a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, OIS, and LED flash combined with an 8-megapixel front facing the camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording ability.

The rear camera on the OnePlus 3 has performed well in good lighting conditions and decent in dim lighting as per review. The front camera tends to deliver a bit washed out images if not taken carefully. However, camera interface on both the devices is full of options. Wait for our detailed review of the HTC Desire 10 Pro before we could compare it with the OnePlus 3.

Battery and Connectivity

For the battery, both the devices come with a 3000mAh non-removable battery. So, not much to choose here.

Regarding connectivity, both the devices come with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, v4.2, GPS, NFC. While there is USB port on the OnePlus 3, the Desire 10 Pro features a regular micro-USB 2.0 port for charging and data syncing. An important feature to note in the OnePlus 3 is ‘Dash-Charging’ which allows quick charging of the device. Both the devices do have a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Wrapping Up

HTC Desire 10 Pro is an impressive device with its unique colour combinations and matte finish. The specifications are also decent for the price with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage on board.

Having said that, Desire 10 Pro’s biggest challenge is that it is pitted against OnePlus 3 which offer beastly specs in the same price range and has got tremendous appreciation from the consumers.

Also, as OnePlus 3T is soon going to be launched in India things may get tougher for HTC as 3T has already started getting good feedback from reviewers you have seen the device. In case you want to explore any other device, Lenovo’s Moto Z Play is not a bad choice.

OnePlus 3 is available exclusively through Amazon India, while HTC Desire 10 Pro will be available via both online and offline channels starting December 15.
