Hotstar update enables downloads on premium content, 18:9 support

With the latest update, users will now be able to download premium content from both movies and TV show listings on their smartphones for watching offline later. All downloaded content will last in your library for up to 7 days since having downloaded or up to 48 hours of having started watching the same.

Ten months after upgrading its premium subscription catalogue with a new all-year Sports pack, Hotstar has now updated its app on both iOS and with a slew of new features. The latest update now gives users the ability to download premium content and also offers support for screens with an aspect ratio of 18:9.

Prior to this update, Hotstar only allowed downloading content restricted to a small number of movies and TV shows. With the latest update, users will now be able to download premium content from both movies and TV show listings on their smartphones for watching offline later. However, Hotstar still restricts some of its premium content from being downloadable but we can expect the current list of premium content to expand in the future.

If you’re a premium subscription user and you want to download a movie or a TV show, all you need to do look for a ‘Download’ button after searching for the title of your interest. Once you press that, you’ll be offered the option to choose from low, medium, high and Full quality depending upon your preference and data pack available.

All downloaded content can be accessed inside the ‘Downloads’ section inside the hamburger menu and like any downloaded content will last in your library for up to 7 days since having downloaded or up to 48 hours of having started watching the same.

Additionally, Hotstar has also added support for smartphones screens with an aspect ratio of 18:9. This will enable full-screen mode of the latest smartphones whose screen are tall with around 18:9 aspect ratio.
