Honor Band 5 update brings remote music control, SpO2 monitoring

Honor Band 5 is now receiving an update that enables users to remotely control music playback and monitor SpO2 levels.

Honor introduced the Honor Band 5 in India last month for Rs 2,599. The smart band has now received an update that brings two new features for users within weeks of its launch.

The Honor Band 5 is now receiving an update that shifts the build version of the smart band to version 1.1.0.93 in addition to upgrading the Huawei Health to version 10.0.1.011. with this update, Band 5 users will be able to remotely control music playback through their smart band and also monitor SpO2 levels that shows the amount of oxygen in the blood.

The remote music control will be compatible with apps including Google Play Music, Spotify, YouTube, Shazam, Huawei music and more and will run on smartphones running 5.0 or later.

How to enable remote music control after the update

1. Head over to the Huawei Health app and enable “Music playback control”.

2. Now on the Honor Band 5, slide through the till you reach the Music control app and click on it.

3. Play music through a compatible app on the phone.

4. Control the music include play, pause, skip, repeat or change the volume directly from the smart band.

The Honor Band 5 features a 0.95-inch AMOLED (240 x 120 Pixels) colour display with 282 PPI and 2.5D glass on top. It has a blood oxygen level sensor which can measure your blood SpO2 levels, indicating the level of oxygen in your blood. Other include 24-hour heart rate monitoring sensor, sleep monitor, 6-axis Accelerometer, Wear and Gyroscope.

The smart band can be used to track 10 different fitness activities like Daily Step Count, Distance Covered, Calorie Burnt, Automatic Exercise Recognition and more. The fitness tracker is waterproof to up to 50 meters and is capable of delivering 14 days of battery life in normal usage condition. The Band 5 weighs 22.7 grams and is made of Silicone material.
