Honor has reportedly confirmed that it will soon update its flagship models, the Honor 8 and Honor 8 Pro with the latest Android 8.0 Oreo update. The brand has also confirmed that it will roll out Android Oreo update to “some other Honor smartphones” as well.
George Zhao, President, Honor, said to The Mobile Indian that both smartphones will receive the latest update. Further, he says that the company is currently beta testing Android Oreo for the two smartphones.
Interestingly, he further asserted that recently-launched Honor 7X will also receive the update. However, the brand has not revealed the timeline for the latest update so far. Previously, the brand has rolled out the EMUI 8.0, which is based on Android Oreo, to Honor 9 and Honor V9. Further, Huawei has also rolled out Android Oreo update for Mate 9, Huawei P10 and P10 Plus.
The company has ditched EMUI 6 and 7, instead, it unveiled EMUI 8.0. After the Oreo update, they will run on Android Oreo-based EMUI 8.0 operating system. After the Oreo update, the smartphones will have picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimise a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email.
