History channel video on GPRS enabled phones

History will be available on both - live streaming as well as video on demand on GPRS enabled phones.

History, an entertainment channel that debuted its India edition in October 2011, is now available on mobile.

The channel will be available on both &#151 live streaming as well as video on demand on enabled mobile phones. To access the application, the user will have to send the keyword “HISTORY” in an to 51818. He can then choose to either view the channel or key episodes from a particular show.

This service is available via mobile TV across leading mobile operators such as Vodafone, Airtel, Idea, Aircel, BSNL, MTNL, Reliance, Tata Docomo and Tata Indicom. There are two price packs &#151 daily (Rs 7) or monthly (Rs 150). The service will soon be available in other Indian languages as well.

Ajay Chacko, president of TV18 Networks, says, “By making History available on the mobile platform, we have once again taken a step in the direction of broad basing and growing this genre in India.”

History has partnered with Hyderabad based Apalya Technologies, which will enable the channel to power its content on mobile TV. Vamshi Reddy, founder and chief executive officer, Apalya Technologies, says, “We are pleased to be offering a great factual entertainment channel like History on board. With live streaming and video on demand, it is surely a good value addition to different mobile and internet users.”
