Google released the latest version of Android earlier this week. While Nexus users are eagerly awaiting for the update, there are numerous devices which are not expected to get the update. If you have one of those devices that will definitely not get the Android 7.0 Nougat but still wants to experience it, this article is for you. Well we warn you to not get your hopes high as you will still not get the actual update but can experience the similar look and feel.
Note: You need a device running AOSP ROM (Lollipop or Marshmallow) or something based on AOSP Rom.
Also, next you need to have root access and a custom recovery installed on your device. You can easily get a noob friendly guide for getting root access and installing the custom recovery on your device on XDA. Once you are done with the above follow the guide given below.
Note: This guide is written on the basis of results on HTC One M7 running an AOSP Rom. Continue with the guide only if you have knowledge about rooting and xposed framework.
Xposed Framework is basically a module based application where you can download various modules which allows extreme customisation for your Android device.
Step 1: Download the Xposed Installer 3.0 alpha 4 and Xposed Framework zip in accordance with your device. SDK21 is for Android 5.0, SDK22 is for Android 5.1, SDK23 is for Android 6.0.
Step 2: After downloading, transfer both the files to your device and preferably place the files in the root folder.
Step 3: Next, boot into Custom Recovery preferably TWRP and flash the xposed zip and Reboot.
Step 4: After booting up your device, install the Xposed Installer APK just like any other app. If you have successfully flashed the zip and installed the apk you will be greeted with the following screen when you open up the app.
Step 5: Swipe from the left and go to download section and search for the module ‘Android N-ify’. Download the module, activate it in the Module section and Reboot.
Step 6: After rebooting, you will see ‘Android N-ify’ in your App drawer, Open the app and customise according to your preference.
Android N-ify offers a bunch of tweaks namely in Settings menu, Recents menu, Status bar header and Notifications. You also get option to enable Dark Theme for the app. Unfortunately, you will not get features like Split-screen multi-tasking and improved Doze. Additionally, you can install Nova Launcher or the newly leaked Nexus Launcher which is tipped to debut with Android 7.1. Download some Nougat wallpapers and you are good to go. Also if you are a regular Snapchat user then we would recommend you to install and login into Snapchat before you flash xposed framework because you won’t be able to login into Snapchat once you have installed xposed. This is due to Snapchat’s verification for the same at the time of the login.
