Swipe Telecom, a Palo Alto, California-based device manufacturing company, yesterday launched Swipe MTV Volt Fablet with a humongous 6 inch display real estate.
Currently, most device makers like Samsung, Micromax, Lava and Spice are launching smartphones with 5 inch and larger display sizes, but Swipe preferred to launch a 6 inch smartphone and the only other smartphone in this category is from Byond. Here is our first impression of the device.
Specifications
Swipe MTV Volt runs on Android 4.1 and supports dual SIM. It has a 1 GHz dual core processor based on ARM Cortex architecture, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory, which can be expanded to 32 GB using a micro SD card.
The device’s 6 inch capacitive touchscreen features a resolution of 854 x 480 pixel and the device has an 8 Megapixel rear camera that supports video recording and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera.
The phablet has a 4 GB internal storage slot, which can be extended to another 32 GB with the use of an external micro SD memory card. There is an 8 megapixel main camera that supports video recording and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera. The Swipe MTV Volt has a 3200 mAh battery pack, which the company claims will give 8-10 hours of talktime. In the box one will also find a flip leather (front side) cover.
Body
We got the white coloured Swipe MTV Volt and our impression of the device is that people with small palms might not feel at ease while holding it, but other users with an average palm size may not have any problem.
Swipe MTV Volt has smooth rounded curves and a matte finishing that makes it non slippery and doesn’t give it a cheap look.
The volume rocker and power on/off button are placed adjacent to each other on the right side panel. There is a 3.5 mm Audio Jack on the top panel and a charging port on the bottom panel.
Display
The USP of Swipe MTV Volt is its 6 inch display that supports 854 x 480 pixel resolution. Its display quality is quite decent and even the graphic quality was good enough. I played the Temple Run game on this device and response to touch and graphics were quite good.
User interface
There are three capacitive touch buttons on the bottom of the screen (settings, home and return,) which are quite responsive. The response to touch in MTV Volt was good but there was no customized user interface on the device. Another major thing one will notice in the menu is an exclusive inbuilt TV-player offering viewers on-the-go access to MTV. In this TV App one can also add more live channels.
Camera
The 6 inch tablet has an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for video chatting. We didn’t click any pictures with them so we will not be able to write about their quality.
Conclusion
Swipe MTV Volt is an innovative product, especially with the content partnership with MTV.
We will reserve our final verdict about the smartphone till we review the smartphone, which will be posted soon.
