At a time, when most of the handset players are experimenting with 5 inch display bearing devices, Byond Tech, Pune based handset marketer, has gone a step further and launched Phablet PIII smartphone which has a huge 6 inch display.
On the feature front, it has a 1 GHz dual core processor, an 8 Megapixel auto focus camera, Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, dual SIM and a leather case. We have got this device with us and here is our first impression about the Byond Phablet III.
Body
We have got the white body coloured Phablet III and it looks pretty good. People with small palms might not feel at ease while holding it but other users may not have any issue while using it.
Byond has given wide curved metal strip on Phablet III side that gives it a premium look and grip without giving any edgy feeling. Its back panel is made of plastic with a mat finishing that makes it non slippery but doesn’t make it look cheap.
It has a volume rocker and power on/off button on right side panel, a 3.5 mm Audio Jack on top panel and a charging port (which doubles up a port for attaching data cable) in the bottom panel.
Display
Byond Phablet III has a 6 inch display that supports 480 X 854 resolution. Its display quality is quite good (keeping in mind the price of the smartphone), thus watching movies and picture on the device is a pleasurable experience.
User interface
There are three capacitive touch buttons on the bottom of the screen (setting, home and return) which are quite responsive. The response to touch in Phablet III is also quite good and we didn’t encounter any lag.
Byond has not done any unique customisation on Phablet III and it comes with the regular Android interface like one can place an App shortcut anywhere on three display screen, in main menu one will two separate folders for apps and widgets and pull down menu for different shortcuts including WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, data and profile.
Processor and performance
Byond Phablet III comes with a 1 GHz dual core Processor with 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal memory. We played a few games on the device and we didn’t face any problem and even using WiFi was a smooth affair. It has a 2500 mAh battery.
Camera
The 6 inch tablet has an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and VGA front facing camera for video chatting. We clicked a few pictures using both the cameras. Pictures taken through the rear camera were quite decent but the quality of pictures taken using front camera was just average.
Byond has provided some quick shortcuts in the camera app itself for editing and modifying the pictures which are quite handy to give different effect to snaps clicked.
Entertainment
This Phablet III comes pre-loaded with Angry Birds, Temple Run and TurboFly 3D game. On the chatting and utility front, it has FM Radio, WhatsApp, Wechat, Flashlight and Skype apps on board.
Conclusion
Byond Phablet PIII is a device with big display and is attractively priced at Rs 12500.
Look wise it is a pretty decent device and we will reserve our final verdict about the smartphone till we do the review of the device which will be posted in coming days.
