Google updates Gmail for mobiles

This feature has already been available for iOS social networking apps, and currently the Gmail feature will be available only in iOS devices and BlackBerry PlayBook.

Google has updated its Gmail for mobiles to make it look better on the smaller screen and function smoother.

According to a Google blog post, users just have to pull down the mail inbox page to refresh it. This feature has already been available for social networking apps, and currently the Gmail feature will be available only in iOS devices and BlackBerry PlayBook. The new icons are high ones, which make full use of the ‘retina display’ provided on iOS devices by Apple.

The Google blog post said, “On the mobile team, we strive to produce web apps which look and feel just like installed apps. In the past few weeks, we’ve released a number of features which make Gmail for mobile look sharper and feel smoother.”

The transitions between inbox, menu and conversations look as if one screen is sliding to another &#151 the basic idea behind such transitions is to make the whole process smoother. Since the updates were being rolled out for some time, some users may have noticed the changes earlier also.
