Samsung along with Google has announced the much awaited Galaxy Nexus GT-I9250 smartphone. The Galaxy Nexus has 4.65-inch massive display and powerful hardware that promises to arrive early November in US, Europe and Asia.
Heavily awaited Galaxy Nexus is second smartphone to arrive from the Google-Samsung partnership. Last year, both companies rolled out the Nexus S model with Android 2.3 Gingerbread running on it. Now the Galaxy Nexus arrives with bigger display, button-less design and slim form factor.
All new Galaxy Nexus (GT-I9250) has a 4.65-inch Contour touchscreen display built using the Super AMOLED HD technology. This Contour display has rounded corners and possess a curve just like its predecessor model Nexus S. The Galaxy Nexus’ Super AMOLED HD display comes with 1280×720 pixel Resolution support natively with 16:9 aspect ratio. The front panel of this smartphone is devoid of any hardware or even capacitive buttons.
Under the 8.94mm slim form factor, Galaxy Nexus houses a dual-core 1.2 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 mobile Processor coupled with 1GB RAM and 16GB onboard memory. By default, the Galaxy Nexus will come with 16GB Memory card in the box. However, not every version of the Galaxy Nexus will get the 16GB memory card.
For graphics, this smartphone is said to pack the PowerVR SGX 540 graphics chip clocked at 384Mhz. So despite of having a yesteryear GPU chip, it will still offer marginally better graphics output. The Galaxy Nexus will be capable of 1080p HD video playback.
Galaxy Nexus features HSPA+ network support with up to 21Mbps speeds and select regions will also get the LTE version. This smartphone has a 5-megapixel auto-focus camera with LED Flash at the rear that is capable of recording 1080p full HD video. Google has tweaked the Camera App to offer zero lag experience. In the front lies the 1.3 megapixel camera for Video call and chat.
By default, the Galaxy Nexus will run the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box without any custom skinning. The new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich brings fresh user experience and several new features.
In terms of wireless connectivity, Galaxy Nexus features Bluetooth 3.0 and Dual-Band Wi-Fi (802.11 a/b/g/n) support. Apart from that, Galaxy Nexus also packs sensors such as Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscopic sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity sensor and Barometer. This smartphone also features Near Field Communication chip that is usable with new feature called Android Beam which involves tapping two NFC enabled phones/devices together for data exchange.
Samsung has added a 1750 mAh battery to power the Galaxy Nexus and one can enjoy any pair of earphones since the 3.5 mm audio port exists along with Micro USB port.
Samsung will make the Galaxy Nexus smartphone available early November and there is no word on pricing as yet.
