Google’s famous flagship event is all set to happen today and if rumors are true then a lot is up for grasp in this year’s event. Usually, Google launches its flagship devices with the latest piece of Android Operating System. This year it hasn’t been the case as Google has already rolled Android 7.0 Nougat to various devices and the first device to run Android Nougat out of the box is not a Google device as well. In fact, it was LG’s V20 which was launched earlier last month.
When is Google’s Event?
Google’s launch event will take place today in San Francisco at 9 am PST (Pacific Standard Time)/4 pm (GMT) and in India it will start at 9:30 pm (IST). For those who don’t want to miss the event can watch the live stream on YouTube (https://youtu.be/q4y0KOeXV)
What is Google Expected to launch?
This year Google’s launch event is a bit special in the sense as Google will be releasing its new line up of smartphones with the name ‘Pixel’. Just like last year, Google is expected to launch two smartphones this year – Pixel and Pixel XL, the former being the smaller of the two. Apart from the Pixel devices, Google is expected to launch a 4K enabled Google Chromecast Ultra with Google branding on it. Other than that, a new multimedia device with the name ‘Google Home’ is also coming out today. Google Home is essentially Google’s home assistant which can play media, answer to your questions through ‘Google Now’ and perform various other functions. Other than this, Google is rumoured to reveal a new Operating System in the name ‘Andromeda’ which is basically a combination of Chrome OS and Android. This was further suspected when one of the officials from Google tweeted about the same.
Google Pixel and Pixel XL
Out of all the launches that are expected to take place, Pixel and Pixel XL are probably the most rumoured devices. First of all, as we know, Google is likely to dump the name ‘Nexus’ for its devices this year and instead is likely to opt for a new name ‘Pixel’ under which it earlier released a tablet. Further, this year both the Pixel devices are manufactured by HTC so we can expect premium designs.
Talking about the designs, Pixel and Pixel XL witnessed one of the most comprehensive leaks so far this year. Alleged final renders are already out on the internet giving all the details about the hardware present outside. Inside, the phones are expected to sport Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 Processor and 4GB RAM. They are likely to come in different storage models. The Pixel is rumoured to have a 5 inch 1080p display while a 5.5 inch Quad HD display is expected in Pixel XL. Google Pixel might house a 2770 mAh battery while Pixel XL is expected with a 3450 mAh battery. Both the devices will run on Android 7.1 Nougat, as per reports.
Apart from this, both the devices have a glass plate at the back surrounding the camera lens and fingerprint reader. This glass plate is rumoured to serve the purpose of track-pad for the new rumoured OS – Andromeda.
After a Canadian carrier and UK retail store, Verizon also listed the devices later yesterday. The interesting part here is that, it named ‘Google Magic’ in one of the feature points. Now what is Google Magic? Well, it’s best to wait another few hours in order to find out.
