Google has finally taken the wrap off from its latest flagship Made by Google devices, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones. The Google Pixel 2 comes a with a starting price of $649, while the Pixel 2 XL will be available at a starting price of $849. Both the smartphones will be available in India, Austraila, Canada, Germany, the UK and the US. The phone will be available for pre-order in the US from today.
The Google Pixel 2 comes in three colour options including Kind of Blue, Just Black and Clearly White colour options, while the Pixel 2 XL will be available in Just Black and Black & White colour options. The second generation of Pixel devices comes loaded with a host of new and interesting features. To start with, the regular Pixel 2 comes loaded with a 5.0-inch Full HD OLED display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The Google Pixel 2 XL sports a 6.0-inch QHD+ pOLED display with a screen resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels. Both the phones come loaded with a new Always-on Display and are protected with 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Further, both the devices are Daydream-ready, meaning that they are optimised for virtual reality.
Google has also confirmed that Pixel 2 series comes with the highest rated camera with 98 DxOMark scores, which is the highest for a smartphone. Further, the camera is also optimised for augmented reality and both of them are the first to get Google’s latest feature, the Google Lens. The company has also introduced a new Augmented Reality Stickers, can add playful emojis and virtual characters to your photos and videos and set the scene for your very own stories. Talking about camera specifications, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL sports a 12.2-megapixel rear camera with 1.4-micron pixel size sensor, Aperture f/1.8, optical image stabilisation, electronic image stabilization, dual pixel phase detection + autofocus with laser and 4K video recording. For the front, there is an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.4 aperture, fixed focus and 1.4-micron pixel sensor.
On the hardware front, both the devices are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor along with Adreno 540 GPU. The phones are backed by a 4GB of RAM and comes in 64GB or 128GB storage variants. Further, users get unlimited online storage for photos and videos.
The smartphones run on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo and the company has also introduced ActiveEdge feature, through which one can squeeze the edges to activate Google Assistant. Coming to the virtual assistant, it has now become much smarter. In the coming weeks, your Assistant on Pixel will also be able to help with your daily routines, just by using one simple phrase. For example, when you go to bed at night, with a simple “good night” and Assistant can silence your phone, turn off the lights, set your alarm and more.
On the battery front, the Google Pixel 2 sports a 2700mAh battery, while the elder sibling features a 3520mAh battery. Google claims that phones can give an output of up to 7 hours with 15 minutes of charge. On the connectivity front, both of them supports Wi-Fi 2.4G + 5GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0 + LE, NFC, eSIM, USB Type-C port and GPS. other than this, the smartphones come loaded with IP67 certifications, front-firing stereo speakers and more.
