Weeks after launching the Bolo app to educate kids and improve their reading capabilities in Hindi and English, Google has now updated its Google Pay digital payments service with a new feature today. Starting from today, Google Pay will incorporate train ticket booking for Indian Railways right within its app and the service will be jointly partnered with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Train booking on Google Pay means Google Pay users will now be able to search and browse train options and also book/cancel train tickets by logging into their IRCTC account right from the Google Pay app. Additionally, users will also be able to view details like seat availability, journey duration, and travel times between stations.
Tickets can be availed at no extra cost. With this development, IRCTC joins the likes of RedBus, abhiBus, Yatra and Goibibo as its partners for booking travel tickets. Train booking on Google Pay is available as an update to Google Pay for both Android and iOS users.
Speaking about the launch, Google Pay Product Management Director, Ambarish Kenghe said “UPI payments are fast gathering momentum in India as consumers become increasingly comfortable with the concept of bank-to-bank transfers. It’s heartening to note that these transactions are not just limited to the top metros, but that users of Google Pay are spread across India. Two out of every three transactions on Google Pay come from 300,000 of India’s towns and villages, well beyond India’s largest metros. The train ticket booking feature addresses an important need for Indian users, right within the app and is another step to making the lives of our users easier and more convenient with Google Pay”.
