Google is testing WiFi only mode for its Google Maps app, according to a report. As per the report of Android Police, the WiFi mode is only available for few selected users as of now and has v9.32 build No.
As its name suggests, this version will allow users to restrict data consumed by Google Maps to WiFi only. The WiFi Only option will replace the “offline areas†option. However, the report added that on switching on WiFi only mode, it will warn you that some data will be used.
However, it is not clear whether Google is removing the Offline mode or just replacing it with WiFi mode.
Meanwhile, along with the WiFi mode, a very useful feature – mass transit delays – is also being tested for Google Maps. Android Police also showed some screenshots showing status of Subway in the city of Portland, USA.
However, it is not clear if this feature will be available for other countries or not. Public transport system in India is also in shambles and imagining such a feature in Google Maps in India is still unimaginable.
