BlackBerry users after November 22 will not be able to access their Gmail accounts through the native Gmail application for BlackBerry devices.
Going forward, BlackBerry users using the native Gmail application will get no support for the application from Google. But at the same time Google has been working on a completely new look for the web version of Gmail and the same will be made available to BlackBerry users in the absence of the support for the native application.
To access the Gmail post November 22, BlackBerry users will have to use the refreshed web interface as this is what all the users will be getting support for.
Through this discontinuation only support for the native Gmail application is being removed from the BlackBerry smartphones but users using other Google services will continue to get the support for them as they will not be affected in any way by this transition.
BlackBerry has also issued a statement shedding some more light on the issue and it clearly states that even though the support for the native application has been removed, users will still continue get access to Gmail through the BlackBerry Browser and also the support for the Gmail push mail service will continue. So users who have configured Gmail to work as their mail account will continue to get the services as always.
