Google follows Apple, introduces Free App of the Week on Play Store

The new section will include one paid app for free every week, similar to what we have seen in App Store.

Google seems to have taken a leaf from arch rival Apple’s strategy, to introduce a new feature on its known as Free App of the Week. Through this section, the search giant will be offering popular paid apps for free every week.

However, the section is only available for US market, however, soon we might expect this feature in India as well. This is because, the first free app available on the Play Store, Card Wars – Adventure Time, agame based on Cartoon Network’s Adventure Time show, is also available for free on the Indian Play Store. The app would generally cost you Rs 200, but you can download it for free from the app store.

This new promotional feature from Google is similar to what Apple has to offer on its App Store. Apple provides with the access to a ‘Free app of the week’, which generally cost you some bucks.

Previously, Google introduced a website which helps you customise OS, known as ‘My Android Taste Test’. The test is all about a series of questions and once you answer all these, the test will recommend different apps ranging from wallpapers to app icons to launcher to widgets, all which can be easily downloaded.

Google is also taking some steps to purge millions of applications from the Play Store that are not safe. The company has started sending out emails to developers across the globe stating that it will soon “limit visibility” or remove apps from the store if they don’t update Google’s User Data Policy.
