Gionee and Oppo have somehow find a place in budget to mid range price bracket and recently have been releasing decent smartphones. In August 2016, Gionee launched its S6s which the company claimed is the ultimate photography smartphone. Around the same time, Oppo came up with Oppo F1s which featured a 16 Megapixel front camera. Both the devices are sold at around Rs 17,000 so let’s compare and see which phone comes out as the winner.
Design and Display
Gionee S6s comes with a uni-body sturdy design with metal sides which no doubt makes phone premium for the price but overall the device is a bit heavy. On the front, there is a 5.5 inch Full HD screen with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. On the other hand, the F1s also comes in at a heavy weight but that’s because it features a metalic shell surrounding a 5.5 inch 720p IPS LCD panel with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The screen on the Gionee S6s is better with higher Resolution but in terms of design Oppo F1s is much better. Both the phones come with a fingerprint scanner which is thumbs up.
Processor
Underneath the hood, Gionee S6s has red by a Mediatek MT6753 octa-core 1.3GHz Processor with Mali T720MP3 GPU for graphics and 3GB RAM. The device runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with Gionee’s Amigo UI 3.2 on top. Whereas, Oppo’s F1s is powered by a Mediatek MT6750 octa-core 1.5GHz processor with Mali T860MP2 GPU for graphics coupled with 3GB RAM. Oppo F1s runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Color OS 3.0 on top. Well, Lollipop out of the box in 2016 is quite a bummer.
Storage and Memory
In the storage department, Gionee’s S6s comes with 32GB internal storage which can be expanded up to 256GB via a hybrid Dual SIM slot. On the other hand, Oppo F1s comes with same 32GB internal storage which can be be expanded up to 256GB via its dedicated micro SD card slot. Both the phones come with Dual SIM capabilities.
Camera
This is the USP of both the phones. Gionee S6s offers a 13 megapixel primary camera with f/2.0 Aperture and LED flash. It also houses an 8 megapixel front facing camera with f/2.2 aperture and a front LED flash as well.
On the other hand, Oppo F1s sports a 13 megapixel rear facing camera with f/2.2 aperture whereas at the front for selfies it sports a massive 16 megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture. Cameras on both the phones can only shoot up to 1080p videos so that’s a bit of surprise there.
Battery and Connectivity
In the battery department, the things are pretty close with Gionee S6s featuring a 3150 mAh battery and Oppo F1s featuring a 3075 mAh battery. Given Oppo F1s has a 720p display, we can expect a better battery life on Oppo F1s.
For connectivity, both the devices have Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, and GPS. A Micro USB 2.0 is in Oppo F1s while Gionee S6s boasts a USB Type-C port.
Wrapping Up
Both the phones offer decent specifications at this price range. While Gionee S6s has a better screen, Oppo F1s has better design. Oppo F1s also comes with better front facing camera and dedicated Memory card slot. However, it has a slightly old processor when compared to S6s. Overall, Oppo F1s is a better device on paper.
