G’Five to launch two Android phones for Rs 6,000

The company, which gained prominence after research firm IDC ranked it the number two mobile brand in India based on sales figures, also plans to introduce an Android phone without 3G connectivity.

G’Five, a Chinese mobile phone manufacturer, will launch two phones in the Rs 6,000 range by November end.

“These launches will be part of our strategy to target the replacement market that is growing very rapidly in India,” Arshit Pathak, managing director, Kingtech Electronics, a group company of G’Five International, told The Mobile Indian.

The phones will be priced below Rs 6,000 and will have 2.8 inch and 3.2 inch screens. The smaller handset will have a 600 from MTK while the other device will have an 800 MHz MStar processor. Both phones will be based on Android 2.2.

Pathak said, “The company will continue to target the bottom of the pyramid. But the Indian market has a new market which is the second time users, who are looking for better products this time around. We will continue to provide the best value products that are low on price but high on features and quality.”

The company, which gained prominence after research firm IDC ranked it the number two mobile brand in India based on sales figures, also plans to introduce an Android phone without connectivity.

Pathak said 3G represents a substantial chunk of the cost of an Android phone. We see good prospect in Android phones without 3G as it will help in bringing the price to the Rs 3,000 level.”

Currently, Spice is the only company to have such a product; Spice Mi270 costs Rs 4,500. Huawei, another Chinese telecom giant, is eying the Indian handset market and is also ready to launch a similar product.

G’Five will launch a basic gaming phone with 1,000 free games as well. Pathak said, “We are looking at a mix of trial games and some full fledged games. The idea is to introduce gaming to the lower end of the spectrum so that they can later graduate to better products. These phones will be priced below Rs 3,000, and will include very basic (16 bit games), but entertaining games.”
