Samsung along with Google is preparing the launch of much awaited smartphone — Galaxy Nexus in India. The date for the same has not be decided or communicated as of now. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich sometime in second or third week of next month.
Much awaited Samsung-Google’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone will be launched formally in India sometime mid-December before Christmas festival. At the launch of Galaxy Note last week, country head – mobile & IT business at Samsung India, Ranjit Yadav clarified that the launch of Galaxy Nexus will take place before end of this year 2011.
However, the actually availability of stock might be pushed to early January. Samsung UK had announced that the Galaxy Nexus will be available in UK on November 17. Even number of countries in Europe and US will be getting the Galaxy Nexus in stores on same date.
The Galaxy Nexus comes with a big 4.65 inch Super AMOLED HD display with native 1280×720 pixel resolution. Under the slim form factor, it houses a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. This will be the first pure Google Android experience smartphone to get full 1080p HD video recording via 5 Megapixel camera at the back.
Video calling is possible with the front facing 1.3 megapixel camera in the front and rest suite of features include Dual-Band WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, Near Field Communication, and storage option of 16 GB or 32 GB. Just like the Samsung Nexus S smartphone, even the Galaxy Nexus will not have any SD card slot.
We hope that Samsung does not run out with the stock of Galaxy Nexus smartphone for India. Last year, the Galaxy Nexus was launched in two models — one with Super Amoled screen and other with Super Clear LCD screen. The latter is bit cheaper but nowhere close to the Super Amoled screen model. If offering two different models for same phone is on the charts for Samsung, then several loyal users will be disappointed.
Also the Galaxy Nexus smartphone’s worthy competitor — Motorola RAZR is expected to launch sometime this month or next. Interesting would be to see the pricing since both high end smartphones are expected to be priced somewhere close to Rs 35,000 roughly. Also both are important handsets when it comes to Google for Galaxy Nexus is the Android 4.0 device and Google recently acquired Motorola Mobility.
