Gadgets launched this week

This week two Smartphones, one tablet, and six accessories were launched in India.

We started this week with the Lava Iris Alfa 6550, and it seemed like a promising week for mobile phones, but it soon turned into a glut of accessories instead, and we at The Mobile Indian always go with the flow and we enjoy new technology as much as the next person, and we had a terrific time exploring the multitude of Sony and TomTom accessories. Asus also launched their much awaited tablet, and Karbonn furthered their Titanium series with the Mach One. Let us have a slightly detailed look at all the launches of this week.

Lava Iris Alfa – Rs 6,550

The Lava Iris Alfa, launched on the 19th, is Lava’s latest offering. It has 5 inch display with a of 854 x 480 pixels, and packs a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor as well as 1 GB of RAM. The phone has 8 GB of internal memory and offers a 32 GB micro SD card slot as well.

The 4.4 based Alfa offers a 5 megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and a flash light. In the front, the phone has a camera. For connectivity, the handset offers 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi. It has a 2200 mAh battery pack.

Karbonn Titanium Mach One – Rs 6,990

The Karbonn Titanium Mach One comes with a 4.7 inch IPS display. It has a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz, and 1 GB of RAM. This Android KitKat based smartphone has 8 GB of internal memory, 32 GB micro SD card slot, 8 megapixel rear camera, a 5 megapixel front camera, dual-SIM, 3G, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, and an 1800 mAh battery that claims to offer 6 hours of talktime.

Karbonn has also promised to release Android 5.0 update for the phone sometime in future.

Sony SmartWatch 3 – Rs 19,990

The Sony SmartWatch 3 has a built-in microphone, compass, gyroscope, GPS, 1.6 inch TFT LCD, and a 420 mAh battery which is claimed to last two days. The SmartWatch connects with Lifelog, a popular fitness from Sony.

The SmartWatch 3 is waterproof, and charges via a standard microUSB port. It has 4 GB of storage, and connects via as well as NFC.

Sony SmartBand Talk – Rs 12,990

The Sony SmartBand Talk is also a part of Sony’s SmartWear experience range, and has a 1.4 inch E-ink display with a resolution of 296 x 128 pixels. It is compatible with devices running Android 4.3 and above. The SmartBand Talk has Bluetooth 3.0 and a microUSB port for charging and transferring files.

The SmartBand Talk too is waterproof, just like the SmartWatch 3. With a 70 mAh battery it claims to offer three days of power back up. The SmartBand Talk has a microphone and loudspeaker to imitate a natural calling style.

Asus Fonepad 8 – Rs 13,999

This tablet has an 8 inch HD IPS display with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3 GHz coupled with 2 GB of RAM. It has 16 GB ROM and a 64 GB micro SD card slot. The Asus Fonepad 8 weighs 310 grams and has two front speakers with MaxxAudio technology.

The Asus Fonepad 8 runs on Android KitKat but has Asus’ own ZenUI on top of that, which adds a host of connectivity and file sharing options. It has a 4000 mAh battery that allows for 12 hours of video viewing or 21 hours of 3G talk time.

TomTom Watches

Navigational equipment and services provider, TomTom earlier this week announced four new fitness watches for athletes in India. The watches come with various including GPS and is designed for athletes to keep a track on their exercise regime.

The watches – TomTom Runner (Rs 12,999), TomTom Multi-Sport (Rs 15,499), TomTom Runner Cardio (Rs 20,999), and TomTom Multi-Sport Cardio (Rs 23,499) – are now available from Flipkart.

The TomTom Runner Cardio and Multi-Sport Cardio are available in black and red combination while the TomTom Runner wristwatch is available in all black, and dark pink and grey combination. The Multi-Sport is available only in dark grey version. All these watches are water resistant.

All the TomTom wrist watches come with GPS and thus offer real time running information. The Runner Cardio and Multi-Sport Cardio watches even offer built-in heart rate monitors. These watches also come with Graphical Training modes.

The TomTom Multi-Sport and Multi-Sport Cardio have Swim Sensor as well that lets you track your swimming metrics which includes your efficiency, strokes, stroke type and length, distance and speed. They also come with Bike Mount.

All the watches have in-built battery; the TomTom Runner and Multi-Sport watches claims to offer 10 hours of back up while the other two is said to have 8 hours of back up. These devices have port and can be connected with PCs. Also TomTom offers applications for Android (4.3 and above versions) and (6.0 and above) devices.
