In the latest development, a Foxconn insider has spilt some beans regarding this year’s roadmap of Apple. The insider has revealed some key information about Apple smart glasses, iPhone 8, Siri-based speaker and upcoming MacBook lineup.
According to a recent IAMA session on Reddit, Foxconn insider has revealed that the Cupertino-based giant is working on smart glasses and is designed to bring augmented reality to the masses. The glasses has been named as Project Mirrorless and he said that it might get launched by 2018-2019. The smart glasses will be available in three colours including crystal, champagne and black.
Further, the insider claims that will come loaded with “Kopin NED Acetate Frame, Polarized or prescription lens with Zeiss smart optics, Bone induction modules, Microphones (noise cancellation), Light sensor, Accelerometer for step tracking and head movement App navigation, Magnetometer for navigation Capacitive Pavel Ceramic battery Apple Chipset Charging circuit BL5 Induction module.”
He further added microphone will be used for voice, while accelerator meter and a magnetometer will be used for different gestures including ‘nod for yes, shake for no, small capacitive strip on arm for accept calls, volume functions’. Based on the bill material, the insider said it might retail around $600. However, he also said that the company might get delayed, if not cancelled altogether.
Coming to the iPhone 8 aka iPhone X, the tipster said that rumours depicting fingerprint sensor on the back are nothing but misinformation. The Foxconn insider further added that the design of the upcoming Apple iPhone will be “more like an iPhone 7 with glass and without the AuthenTec’s capacitive touch module.” He said that the fingerprint sensor will be present at the front and the latest iPhone will come loaded with a 3GB of RAM. Other than this, the iPhone 8 will support Lightning port as opposed to the USB-C, which rumoured earlier. Further, the latest smartphone will support fast-charging and might also support wireless charging as well.
The iPhone 7s, the refreshed version of the iPhone 7, is said to feature an aluminium body and there will be no wireless charging.
Moving to the Siri-based speaker, the Foxconn insider said that it will be powered by an A9 Processor and it will likely to launch until later this year. Further, the tipster said that the design of the speaker will be eerily similar to Mac Pro and lastly it might come in three sizes, one of which did not boast a screen.
Lastly, on the MacBook front, the tipster reveal that there will be a 32GB RAM variant of the 15-inch MacBook Pro, which is in line with previous rumours. Sadly, according to AMA session, Apple might discontinue MacBook Air laptop. Further, the source revealed that the new laptop lineup will come with “more glass and dark black body”.
