On Independence day, Flipkart will launch a new program which will besimilar to Amazon Prime.Dubbed as Flipkart Plus, the ‘customer-first’ benefits program will be a point-based no-fee membership and will be going live on August 15.
This development comes months after getting fresh sources of funds through Walmart. Flipkart wants to have something similar to Amazon India’s Prime membership service in India
The reward-based service will allow customers early access to major sale events like Flipkart’s Big Billion Days and Big Shopping Days as well as free and faster delivery services. In addition to that, Flipkart will also be rolling out a ‘Plus-points’ scheme with every order which will unlock more deals and discounts off on other products and services.
There’s a chance that these Flipkart Plus points will be able to be redeemed at other outlets including Zomato, MakeMyTrip, Café Coffee Day or even Hotstar, the last one already among the list of alternatives for Amazon’s Prime Video.
In contrast to Flipkart’s Plus programme, Amazon India started Prime with an introductory price of Rs 499 in India back in 2016. The Seattle-based e-tailer now charges Rs 999 for its service that includes free delivery services, early access to product sales, membership to watch Prime Video and Prime Music, and other services. Flipkart has thus a long way to go if it plans to reach the standards set by its US-based counterpart.
