In an event that took place in the national capital of India, we got a change to lay our hands on this new PureView technology based smartphone – the Nokia 808.
And the PureView technology and its adoption for the 808 smartphone has impressed us very much.
###PAGE###
The Nokia 808 PureView is priced at Rs 33,800, with a best buy price of Rs 33,000. It is available across the country from today onwards starting with Nokia priority dealers. The price tag puts the device in straight competition with the devices such as Apple iPhone 4S, Sony Xperia S and the Samsung Galaxy S III but with its camera capabilities, the Nokia 808 comes as a clear winner.

In terms of look and feel, the Nokia 808 PureView features the classis Nokia feel and usability that has been improved and innovated over the years by Nokia. Although the Nokia 808 PureView is a heavy device when it comes to the weight but its smooth curves and the overall comfortable form factor makes it very easy to manage and handle.
The device features a matte finish overall that makes the phone non slippery and smudge resistant although the big 4 inch Clear Black display manages to get all the smudges which will force the users to clean it frequently.

The Clear Black display in another highlight of the Nokia 808 PureView which shows images and videos brilliantly. The display is protected by a scratch resistant surface so users need not worry about the device but since it’s a 4 inch display they cannot be too careless either. The build quality is top notch and a classic example of Nokia’s experience gained over the years.

The look of the device is quite similar to that of a Nokia 603 but it is a bit bigger. The Nokia 808 features three keys on the front panel – one each for the call connect/disconnect and the menu key. On the sides, you will find the volume rocker and the camera key.
Along with that the PureView now features a push button for locking and unlocking the device on the side. The upper part of the device is heaviest portion of the handset as it houses camera which comes with a 1/1.2 inch image sensor with a gigantic 41 Megapixel Resolution sensor.
###PAGE###
Nokia 808 makes use of the PureView pro imaging technology that over samples the pixel captured by the image sensor to capture a perfect picture that has both clarity and depth as well.
The technology works in a simple way – the camera captures pixels according to its resolution then the software checks and chooses the best pixels for best results. To do all the calculations and that too without any lag Nokia utilises a secondary or companion Processor which has been tweaked for superfast image processing.

The 41 megapixel image sensor is aided by Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash. Bearing the f/2.8 aperture. The 41 megapixel camera promises 7728×5354 resolution images in 16:9 formats along with full HD videos in 30 frames per second with CD quality sound too.
###PAGE###
The Nokia 808 smartphone features a single-core 1.3 GHz mobile processor which is aided by 512 MB RAM for optimal performance. In terms of performance, the device is quite fluid as it is based on the Nokia Belle operating system.
###PAGE###
By default, the smartphone comes with 16 GB on-board storage and can support up to 32 GB micro SD card which will come in real handy while recording high definition videos especially as every minute worth of 1080p video that the device captures consumes around 100 MB worth of storage space.
###PAGE###
Nokia 808 PureView comes with Nokia Belle feature pack 1 and features Dolby Mobile Plus for 5.1 channel surround sound technology that provides best possible audio experience through stereo wired headset and through HDMI connectivity.
Nokia has packed a 1400 mAh battery which obviously appears to be much less against other smartphones available today but Nokia 808 PureView promises 11 hours of battery life on EDGE and 6.5 hours of battery life on 3G networks. We will come out with a detailed test result when we test out the device in depth later on.

Nokia has announced the device in just black and white colours as of now and more colours are expected to be added later on. There are a range of accessories also out of which the camera cover is available and would be a great buy with the device too.
